Have you heard about the komodo dragon before? If you
haven’t, read on.
Appearance:
The komodo dragon has hard, dry scaly skin, a strong
tail, sharp teeth, long claws and great speed. An adult weighs about 166 kg and is 3 metres long. It is 40cm long when born.
Habitat:
Komodo dragons live in the hot and dry Indonesian
Islands. The temperature of the islands is usually
80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Diet:
The komodo dragon eats birds, bird’s eggs, and mammals such as: monkeys, wild boar, goats, pigs, deer, horses and water buffalo. It takes about 15-20 minutes to swallow a goat! The komodo dragon can survive on as little as 12 meals a year!
Enemies:
Komodo dragons have no enemies. They are the strongest lizards in the world alive today! They will attack anything edible that moves and they will even attack each other!
Life cycle:
The komodo dragon’s eggs are laid and buried deep. Young dragons become arboreal (they climb trees). At 1.2cm they change to a terrestrial life style. When ready males will approach females and mate.
Lifespan:
Komodo dragons live to about 30-50 years in the wild.
Special Features:
The komodo dragon has toxic bacteria in its mouth which kills its prey. Komodo dragons have 50 sharp teeth and they lay about 24 eggs at a time.

everything they do!
